Look through my Instagram page and you will see how much I love to eat food and cook food. Each dish I create is based on my craving for the day. The thrill is to look through the ingredients that I have at home and come up with a brand new twist to the everyday, usual recipes. Creating food dishes that please the senses is my number one goal. After getting into Ayurveda, that love expanded to wanting to learn and create more healthy, plant-based recipes. So, I gave up these 6 types of food. After all, food is medicine and medicine can be food!
In my journey of self-discovery and education, I learned that there are, in fact, types of food that contributes more to illness than to betterment of health. In this article, I wish to discuss those categories and state the reasons why I stopped eating those. It was a gradual change that took some time to adjust, especially the body. It’s definitely hard to switch from eating just about anything to a smaller variety. The benefits soon began to show up as my body felt less heavy and fatigued. That’s when I knew the power of right types of food.

Growing up in Sri Lanka, I was fortunate enough to eat good, healthy food. The fruits, vegetables, greens, grains and healthy mealtime habits laid a very good foundation for me. When I moved to United States, there was a significant change in that diet. The switch over from daily fish diet to daily chicken diet and the limited array of fruits and vegetables since they were seasonal started wearing on me. The amount of hormones and chemicals in the meat really impacted my body. Luckily, my diet wasn’t too bad as we were kept away from a lot of junk food.
Energy Healing Session
We all have dark and light aspects within ourselves. Identifying the dark aspects and integrating them into the light to heal and transform to a better and higher version of self is the key goal. The healer will provide space to release the past traumas, abuse, emotional baggage, repressed emotions and other shadow aspects. This release is like a clean up that creates space for light and positive aspects to enter your life.
Here are the 6 types of food that I gave up or moved away from gradually. The health benefits are tremendous just from removing them from my diet. The body feels more vibrant with energy while there is a lingering feeling of lightness in the body and mind. The weight gain has significantly decreased while the overall health has improved. Another point to make is the dullness of the mind ceased, stress levels decreased and the movement of energy in the body can be felt easily as opposed to feeling stagnant.
1. Meat
Number one is meat. Most meat that are available are factory grown under unethical standards. No one knew what goes inside those factories until a few videos leaked to the public. Animals are packed and lined without the ability to move about. Hormones and chemicals are injected into their bodies to grow faster than the normal rate to keep up with the ever-growing demand for food. The depressed animals are force fed through tubes to fatten up. The type of food they are fed is below standard with least amount of nutrition. All these factors transfers over to the humans consumers when consuming meat.
Karma that comes from eating another living being is another factor to consider, especially meat reared through unethical and inhumane processes. Traditional farms used to allow the animals to graze free and feed. Now the animal is kept locked in the same position from birth till death, babies snatched away from mothers after birth and other sad deeds that takes place behind closed doors. When these types of things happen, the meat becomes toxic rather than building to the body.

Meat is generally harder to digest than other food, red meats being the hardest. The growing number of cancer patients are largely due to the consumption of meat products and the carcinogens that gets carried into the body. Undigested food also gets fermented in the intestines, turning to toxins over time. Due to these reasons and the availability of plant based protein substitutes, I decided to move away from meat starting with giving up red meats like beef then gradually lamb and mutton. Then it was pork, especially the bacon. Fish and chicken were the last to be removed and carry the least amount of karma.

2. Dairy
Dairy also has similar effects as meat since they are animal products. There are so many harmful chemicals and toxins unknown to people that are in those products. The negative health effects show up over a span of time so it is not immediately apparent.
Eggs have this dulling effect on the mind and body. These are filled with chemicals that are put inside the animals’ bodies. Eggs are a means of reproduction. To house the growing embryo, the body sends a lot of the nutrients it has. Unfortunately, the little nutrients it sends also comes with the toxins and chemicals that their body has accumulated along with the DNA alternations. When the food the animals eat are of lower quality, there is not much nutrition to gain from eating the egg. Traditionally, the eggs were eaten to gain the high nutrition value. Not to mention that we are literally eating an egg/ embryo of another living being.

Most commercial cheeses are produced from a substance inside the cow’s intestines called rennet instead of milk. All the gooey goodness of undigested food mass, toxins, chemicals and other good stuff stored in a factory farmed cow’s intestines goes straight into yours. Cheese is very hard to digest, very heavy and mucus forming. The indigestion caused by regular consumption of such foods have a major toll on the body.
Milk is taken from a mother whose calf was taken away hours after its birth. One video footage showed the calf having a plastic stopper hung from his nose to stop from drinking milk. The pain and anger of a mother who is not able to feed her infant turns the milk toxic. The very thing the traditionally the most nourishing, is the very thing that has turned to poison due to human greed and selfishness. It is truly sad to see so many recipes in use that require milk and other dairy products. It is important to be educated about the harmful effects as well as the inhumane treatment of animals in modern culture.
3. White Sugar
Sugar is not naturally white. It is bleached white. The bleaching substance is the same chemical that is used to bleach other white products like paper towels, toilet paper, flour, etc. Through this process chemicals come inside the body that gets stored in the fat tissues. They turn into carcinogens that cause deadly diseases like cancer over time.

The nutrition that comes from the plant the sugar is derived from such as sugar cane or beetroot is destroyed during the bleaching process. What’s left is something that the body finds very unfamiliar and hard to digest. This puts additional strain on the body. The unhealthy type of sugar ingested into the body this way causes diabetes and obesity. Biological warfare is not limited to viruses. Just putting the thought out there.
The amount of sugar consumption has risen to an all time high. A simple bottle of apple juice contains so much of sugar that the average consumer consumes way above the natural level. The pancreas and the liver cannot handle such high levels of sugar to metabolize. Addictions to sugar are created by the commercialism of beautiful cakes and desserts that seems inviting. This is where the self-control plays a huge part.

4. Canned Food
Canned food seems like an easy solution to getting exotic vegetables and fruits, ready to eat food and food that needs less prep time. If you read the labels and research about what is being put inside to preserve, you will find out a lot. Blindly trusting consumer will buy and these eat without questioning. Thanks to the few who does question, there is more awareness and an increasing number of educated consumers who demand better.
We consume the life force of food, along with the nutritional value. These are the factors that sustain life in our bodies, allow the tissues to grow and help the natural healing to take place in our body. When we gain neither of those three factors from the food that we eat, our body demands more food. No matter how much we eat, there is that lingering feeling of hunger and dissatisfaction. This leads to overeating of useless and lifeless food that clogs the GI tract and channels in the body.

By switching to fresh, sun bathed food that is full of life force energy and nutrients, the body will require less food as it will get what it needs with that little amount. This eliminates the heavy, dense food that is hard for the body to digest that will create toxins in the body. The most familiar food for the human body is plant-based food. This has been the norm for the past millions of years. Plants provide food, medicine and many other things for the humans to survive on. The norm is to take them fresh.
5. Bread
Wheat is sprayed heavily with chemicals and fertilizers. In fact, it is one of the most heavily sprayed. They are sprayed AFTER being harvested too. The parts that are used to make the commercialized white flour are the least nutritious part. That also is bleached with more chemicals to create various types of diseases. The gluten allergy is the reaction of the body to these numerous chemicals. It is the body’s way of fighting and rejecting the junk that is not digestible or handleable.

Bread is also a huge contributing factor to weight gain because of the indigestible chemicals and compounds contained in it. When bread is made, more preservatives in the form of chemicals are added to keep it fresh for a very long time. Some breads would not go bad for weeks! Did you ever think why? Organic materials should decay by the natural laws and processes. Just like the McDonald’s fries that never go bad, most commercialized and mass produced breads won’t rot. That means it is not digestible by the body.

6. Bottled Beverages
This also goes hand in hand with sugar but also deserve a standing ovation as well for the amount of damage caused. Sodas like Coke and Pepsi products as well as other beverages they make, including bottled water from their factories are filled with despicable things. I say do your own research about the water because I was surprised too at what I found. I buy the locally packaged water to drink.

First of all, the amount of sugar contained in the sodas or pop, as people call it, is ridiculous. The average human should not take more than 2 tablespoons of sugar a day. The reason being white sugar is hard to digest and is not in its true natural state. The other reason is that the human gets enough good sugars from other sources like fruits or rice. In simple terms, the body only needs what it needs to fuel itself, nothing more or nothing less.
Another thing is the carbonated drinks burn the nutrients from the food and make it hard for the food to digest naturally when you drink it along with the meals. Watch the videos of people using Coke to clean toilets. Open one and smell the distinct smell of chemicals that are similar to cleaning substances. This is why I stick to drinking black tea mostly and rarely coffee. Homemade fruit juices are also good and safe. Safest is drinking good, clean water. Water helps move the electrolytes in the body and energy throughout the body. It heals and carry away waste materials out of the body.

It is easy to be passive, but the damage that you do to your body damages your DNA structure that gets passed along to your children. Being mindful and aware can save you from many diseases that takes a financial and emotional toll on you and your family. You care about what oil goes into your car but if you don’t care about what diet goes into your body, what is the point? Our body allows us to experience life, live life, connect with others and be there for our loved ones. If health is wealth then the body is the most valuable asset we possess.
Through my work, I seek to constantly share what I have learned through my education in the holistic healing and through life experience. Along with sharing benefits of food as medicine, I love sharing the bad effects of certain food types to educate those who were not previously aware. I would love to hear about the diet changes that you made and what differences it made in your body and life. It makes me feel grateful that there are other conscientious individuals out here form whom I can learn new things.
